Ultrasound Services
Ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to create real-time images of the body's internal structures. It does not use ionizing radiation.
What is Ultrasound?
Diagnostic ultrasound (sonography) uses sound waves to visualize organs, blood flow, and soft tissues. It is safe, non-invasive, and does not expose patients to ionizing radiation, making it suitable for obstetric imaging, vascular studies, and many other clinical applications.
Available Ultrasound Exams
Our ultrasound services use high-resolution technology to visualize organs, blood vessels, and soft tissues without radiation. Below are our primary ultrasound protocols:
Abdominal & Pelvic Protocols
Used to examine major organs and detect structural abnormalities or obstructions.
Specific Applications:
- Gallbladder & Liver: Highly effective for detecting gallstones, cholecystitis (gallbladder inflammation), and fatty liver disease.
- Kidneys & Bladder: Used to identify kidney stones, cysts, and signs of urinary tract obstruction.
- Pelvic/Gynecological: Diagnoses ovarian cysts, uterine fibroids, and endometriosis, and is the primary tool for monitoring pregnancy health.
Vascular & Cardiac Protocols
Focused on heart function and the movement of blood through the body.
Specific Applications:
- Echocardiography: A specialized heart ultrasound used to diagnose valve problems, heart failure, and congenital heart defects.
- Doppler Ultrasound: Maps blood flow to detect Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT), Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD), and carotid artery stenosis (a major stroke risk factor).
- Aortic Assessment: Essential for identifying life-threatening Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms (AAA).
Small Parts & Specialty Protocols
High-resolution imaging for superficial glands and musculoskeletal structures.
Specific Applications:
- Thyroid Ultrasound: The primary tool for evaluating thyroid nodules and early-stage thyroid cancer.
- Breast Ultrasound: Often used alongside mammography to differentiate between benign fluid-filled cysts and solid malignant masses.
- Musculoskeletal (MSK): Diagnoses tendonitis, ligament tears, and joint inflammation like synovitis.
Procedural Support
Ultrasound-Guided Biopsies: Provides real-time visual guidance for needle placement to collect tissue samples from suspicious growths in the breast, thyroid, or liver.

Patient Preparation
- Some abdominal or pelvic exams may require fasting or a full bladder; instructions will be provided with your appointment.
- Wear comfortable clothing and remove jewelry from the area of interest.
- No special preparation is typically required for vascular or musculoskeletal studies.
Reports & Turnaround
Ultrasound exams are interpreted by our board-certified radiologists. Final reports are sent to the referring physician within 48 hours. Urgent findings are relayed immediately to the ordering provider.
